From 2013, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) was all set to replace all other engineering entrance tests across the country.Final decision by Kapil Sibal on this topic was out on 29th May 2012 and gave green signal to conduct Common Entrance Exam for all IIT’s , NIT’s ,IIIT’s . But on Thursday IIT Dehli administration decided to conduct its own entrance exam in 2013 ,ruin the decision of HRD ministry by refusing to be part of the the common entrance test (CET) for all IITs, NITs and IIITs.
IIT-Delhi today decided to conduct its own entrance exam from next year, following in the footsteps of IIT-Kanpur.
IIT Delhi Members Said::
“We will not accept the proposed single entrance test and will conduct our own exam,”and also adding the proposed test “impinges” on the autonomy of IIT-Delhi.“The proposed test is academically unsound and procedurally untenable,”
In meeting senate members said that the other IITs have been asked to reject the new system and join hands with IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur.Indications are that the senate is in favour of retaining the existing format of the IIT-JEE test even as it has decided to set up a committee to examine the issue.The decision of the senate comes a day after Sibal reiterated that there was no going back from holding the single entrance test from next year.
IIT-Kanpur had early this month rejected the proposed test terming it “academically and methodically unsound”.
